It’s hard to believe we’re already half way through 2013 – and with next-gen just around the corner, it’s easy to forget some of the gaming gems we’ve already had. Join us as we take a look at the very best, and the very worse, 2013 has had to offer so far…
The Last Of Us PS3; Metacritic score 95. Our review here.
Even though our review lowballed the overall metacritic score, The Last Of Us on PS3 is officially the highest scoring game of 2013 so far. Many people would agree too. Heralded as one of the greatest games of all time, it’s going to take something very, very special to topple Naughty Dog’s juggernaut by the end of the year.
BioShock Infinite PC, PS3, Xbox 360; Metacritic score 94. Our review here.
Officially our highest scoring game EVER; BioShock Infinite has suffered a somewhat bizarre backlash on the internet in recent times. Don’t let the naysayers fool you, its quality is reflected in its 94 metacritic score. Mixing solid first-person shooting with a mind-bending and morally complex story, BioShock Infinite will be remembered for years to come.
Fire Emblem: Awakening, 3DS; Metacritic score 92.
Got a 3DS? You’ll be wanting this then. Not only the third highest rated game this year; Fire Emblem: Awakening is the highest rated 3Ds game ever. If you’re a long-term fan of the series, you’ll find plenty to love here whilst newcomers will be dazzled by a truly exceptional handheld game. Essential.
Honourable mentions: Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS), Tomb Raider (PC, PS3, Xbox 360), DmC (PS3, Xbox 360), Luigi’s Mansion 2 (3DS).
And the worst…
Ride To Hell: Retribution PC, PS3, Xbox 360; Metacritic score 20.
After playing and reviewing the other two games in our worst section, I’ve not intention of playing this – officially the “Shattest of the Shat 2013“. Instead, here’s a sample from EGM’s review:
“Don’t play Ride to Hell: Retribution. Don’t think about playing it. Don’t think about thinking about playing it. Forget it exists, and continue your life as though it never did“.
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct PC, PS3, Xbox 360. Metacritic score 32. Our review here.
So far, the only game to get Low Fat Gaming’s hallowed “Fuck You Out Of 10” score. It fully deserves it too. Funny that a game subtitled “Survival Instinct” would completely erode yours.
Star Trek: The Video Game PC, PS3, Xbox 360; Metacritic score 42. Our review here.
Just look at that picture above. Look at it. It tells you all you need to know about this almost ‘Fuck You Out Of 10‘. Dull, broken, uninspired and an insult to all things Star Trek, this risible piece of entertainment has almost no redeeming qualities; and the gaming world at large agrees. Which is nice.
